PARIS — Marine Le Pen, the far-right French presidential candidate, said at POLITICO’s first-ever Playbook Paris Live that France can no longer afford to financially assist Ukraine given the country’s dire fiscal outlook.

“We can no longer provide financial assistance to Ukraine, and we regret that,” Le Pen said.

Le Pen is the second presidential candidate speaking with POLITICO on Thursday. Centrist candidate Gabriel Attal kicked off the afternoon, pushing the idea of Europe as a “power continent” that could stand up to China and the U.S.

The summit concludes with a conversation with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the anticapitalist leading all other leftist candidates in the polls.
